Who loves chocolate? I do, i do. And now you don't have to feel guilty about eating it. Well, not too guilty anyway.
Chocolate has more benefits than you think. That's a good thing right? Right.
Did you know chocolate has a plentiful source of antioxidants called polyphenols. Polyphenols are protective chemicals found in plant foods such as red wine and green tea. What the heck does that mean you should ask.....well, chocolate helps prevent heart disease. LDL cholesterol (the bad kind) is a waxy substance that oxidizes and sticks to your artery walls, increasing the risk of heart attack or stroke. The polyphenols inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
High blood pressure is the leading risk for heart disease and one of the common causes for kidney failure. Eating a small bar of dark chocolate daily can reduce blood pressure in people with mild hypertension.
Have you ever heard the saying, "an asprin a day...."? Asprin thins the blood and reduces the formation of clots. Research has shown that chocolate also thins the blood therefore performing the same anti-clotting properties as asprin.
Other on-site or nearby seasonal events and activities include Boulder Walk and Bike Week (June), 4th of July Fireworks, The Paradise Mountain Cycling Road Rally (July), and the Scottish Highlands Festival (the week following Labor Day).
