Introduction

Scurry Community Services, Inc. located in the City of Snyder, in Scurry County Texas and began as Snyder Child Day Care Center in 1971 to care for the children of parents that are working or attending school. Scurry Community Services is one agency that houses three programs; Scurry County Head Start, Scurry County Early Head Start, & Snyder Child Day Care Center. The Head Start (HS) program was added to the agency in 1991 and the Early Head Start (EHS) program was awarded to the organization in 2001. Services are provided in accordance with the Scurry Community Services mission and vision statement. Scurry County HS & EHS are federally funded programs and serve pregnant mothers and children birth – 5 years old within Scurry County.

 

Scurry Community Services, Inc. has successfully provided quality comprehensive child development services for children birth-5 years of age.  Services include education, family engagement, social services, health, mental health, nutritional, and oral health needs.

The purpose of Scurry County HS & EHS is to promote school readiness of eligible children by providing a healthy and safe learning environment that is age appropriate and will promote the development of each child’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical and language skills development. Our services are comprehensive and include the families. Each family will be provided with services that will assist them in attaining goals they have established in areas such as health, educational, nutritional, social, and other services when necessary based on the family’s needs assessments.

Our facility has a total of 19 classrooms; 5 HS serving 3 to 5 years old, 7 EHS serving birth to 3 years and 6 child care serving birth to 12 years old. We have the capacity to serve 200 children. We employ 49 full time staff; 12 management, 31 teaching staff, 3 kitchen staff, 2 custodians & 1 maintenance staff. Currently we have 10 substitute staff which is part time.
