My Top 5 Favorites
- The Dunwhich Horror
Why: This story is my top favorite because of how the story plays out from more than one point of view and because that is plays with the idea of mortals being able to become offspring of the Elder Gods.
The Shadow Over Innsmouth
Why: I particularly enjoy this story because it allows the reader to see the other side of the Mythos, which is the followers/cultists and it also gives us some insight into the followers of Dagon.
The Whisperer in the Darkness
Why: This story, my first work of Lovecraft that I discovered, is among my Top 5 due to the fact that how Lovecraft writes the suspense into the story. One thing that had got me when reading this is that the reader already knows what is at play but must watch the main character continue on to a dangerous situation.
Why: The amount of detail placed into this short story is why it has made my list of Top 5, the way the story is written and the narrative twist you get at the end is an added bonus.
At The Mountains of Madness
Why: Honestly, I find this story to be overbearingly slow and way too wordy for the casual reader but the amount of lore that is placed within this story makes it at least note-worthy for this list.
